Leafer
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 August 2026
Leafer is a plant discovery and identification application operated by Naguprint in Finland. This privacy policy explains what information Leafer processes, why it is processed, and how the app uses third-party services.
Player identity
Leafer does not require an account using an email address, phone number, or password. The app creates a random player identifier that is used to associate discoveries, observations, XP, achievements, and other game progress with the user.
Users may optionally choose an Explorer name. The Explorer name may be displayed to other users on the Leafer leaderboard. Users should not use personally identifying information as their Explorer name.
Plant identification and photos
When a user takes a photograph to identify a plant, the image is transmitted to Leafer's server and processed using the Pl@ntNet plant identification service. The photograph is used to provide plant identification results. Leafer's current identification flow does not intentionally store the submitted identification photograph as a permanent image file on the Leafer server.
Location
Leafer may request access to the device's location when a plant observation is saved. Location access is optional. If permission is granted, latitude and longitude may be stored with the observation and used to display discoveries on Leafer's map. An observation can still be saved if location permission is not granted.
Information stored by Leafer
Depending on how the app is used, Leafer may store:
- a random player identifier;
- an optional Explorer name;
- plant discoveries and observations;
- species information and identification confidence;
- observation dates and times;
- optional observation coordinates;
- XP, achievements, and other game progress; and
- technical references associated with saved observations.
Why information is processed
Information is processed to identify plants, save discoveries and observations, provide the collection and map features, calculate XP and achievements, and provide leaderboard functionality. Leafer does not sell users' personal information and does not use plant observations for targeted advertising.
Third-party services
Leafer uses third-party infrastructure and services necessary to operate the application. This includes Pl@ntNet for plant identification and cloud, database, and mapping infrastructure used to provide Leafer's functionality. Information sent to third-party services may also be processed under those providers' applicable privacy terms.
Children and educational use
Leafer is designed as a nature exploration and educational application that may also be useful in educational settings. The app does not require children or other users to provide an email address, telephone number, or legal name. Users should avoid entering personal information in an Explorer name.
Data choices
Location permission can be denied or changed through the device settings. Users may use Leafer without granting location permission. Privacy questions and requests concerning information associated with Leafer can be directed to Naguprint through the contact information published on the Naguprint website.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when Leafer's functionality or data processing changes. The date shown at the top of this page indicates the latest revision.
