Can I come in for a passport photo today?

Yes. During opening hours you can come in for a passport photo without an appointment (drop-in) between 10:00 and 16:00. If you would like another time, simply book an appointment through the website or by phone.

Do you send the passport photo directly to the police?

Yes. We send the passport photo directly to the police.

Can I get my photo on paper?

Yes, if needed you can get your photo on paper, for example for visa applications.

How is my new passport or ID card delivered?

The finished document is usually delivered within about 8 working days, in a sealed envelope, to the pickup point you chose, e.g. the R-kiosk. Express delivery is available for an extra fee. If you apply at the same time for documents for children in your custody, each document comes in its own envelope. The pickup point keeps the parcel for 14 days. If it is not collected, it is returned to the police station, where you can pick it up after about a week. Check well before your trip that your passport is valid – especially in summer there can be a queue of several weeks at the police service points.

What do I need to pick up my new passport or ID card?

Show the shipment code from the arrival notice and prove your identity with a passport or ID card issued by the Finnish authorities. An old passport or ID card is also accepted if it expired less than a year ago – but you must be recognisable from the photo. A driving licence, an expired temporary passport or an expired temporary ID card is not accepted. You pick up the passport of a child in your custody the same way as your own.

Can someone else pick up my passport or ID card (authorisation)?

Yes. Both you and the person you authorise must be adults (at least 18 years old). The authorisation can only be given as part of the application – either when applying online or in person at the police station. The person collecting needs the shipment code and their own passport or ID card issued by the Finnish authorities (an old one is accepted if it expired less than a year ago). People under 18 cannot authorise anyone themselves – the guardian gives the authorisation instead. A guardian can also collect the child's passport without an authorisation.

I have neither a passport nor an ID card and don't want to authorise anyone. What do I do?

You can pick up your new document at the police station. When you apply online, the system checks whether you have a valid passport or ID card – if you don't, you can choose the police station as your pickup point. If you apply at the police station, agree on this separately there.
